Today, I traversed over to the curve as I'm bankrolling a trip to see David Guetta in concert on December 14th. Feeling bored I decided to try something new... Well new for me in Malaysia... and that is Marche.
For the unitiated in the crowd, Marche is something like an upper scale food court buffet. For malaysians think of a mat sallet style nasi kandar. This month is an Oktoberfest promotion, which I'm delighted to say only happens at night. I smartly went for lunch.
I got an extensive fare and for the most part it was good albiet exspensive. I had been recommended by a student to try the steak which was quoted as "amazing."
I will put my review with the pictures.
Remember to keep your card or they charge you a sealclobbering RM200.
The first item of sampling is the cream of mushroom soup. The soup was made of puree mushrooms and cream. It was not too heavy but a bit grainy. The flavour was nice and not too rich.
The second item was sauteed mixed mushrooms. Surprisingly this was the best dish of the bunch by far that we tried. The only downside was that I think some of the mushrooms were dried which I hate.
The third item was the highly lauded steak. Let my be honest. The person who made this steak had no right to touch a fine piece of meat like that. To call it bland is an insult to all tasteless food. A little salt could have gone a long way.
The side dish was superb. A baked potato with cream, and cheese. It was cooked perfectly.
The last main dish was sausage stew rosti. Rosti is a kind of grated potato pancake that is pan-fried on a skillet. The downsides were that there was too much oil and the stew was slightly burnt.
The sour cream was also excellent and matched perfectly with the rosti and stew.
For dessert was apple strudel. The strudel pastry was thick, dense, and bland; however, the filling was OK.
Overall, if you have ever been to Marche this was all pretty standard to the Marche experience. In the Malaysian context, Marche is a decent place for western food with a large variety of items but there are many better options in the curve.
